Lessons on financial freedom at a young age
I have seen enough people well past their sixties waking up for an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. job. Everybody seems to rationalize this by quoting a well-versed cliché, '"Well, they are keeping themselves active. If they stopped doing what they were doing they would not live for long." Pretty sure they would not live for long but not for the mentioned reason. The real question is: are these seniors having the best time of their lives waking up to go do these jobs or are they simply doing this just to get some money to survive? From the few that I know, I can tell that the main reason they are pushing their already tired bodies is just to make ends meet, and never mind this could even be self-employment. This is literally working for money till they drop dead. They don't even have time to sit down on a rocking chair with their grandchildren and tell them a story, or just take a walk and enjoy nature sceneries.
I have also seen cases where someone retires from their job and then, unfortunately, gets inflicted with a terminal ailment. What follows next is that they exhaust all that they saved over the years in a bid to seek medical intervention. They proceed to dispose of the little assets they have accumulated over their working life to offset the rapidly ballooning medical bills. The next thing you see is a WhatsApp group asking for contributions towards medical aid. At this point, things are moving south pretty fast and predictably, soon the WhatsApp group is renamed to funeral contributions. This is just as cold as it gets. Imagine your child goes through school and gets a good grade and then later a good job. But in their sunset days, the savings they managed from their salary are not even enough to cover their dignity.
The only thing that can save one from this tragedy is having a piece of sound financial knowledge. At Utawala Smartkids we want to break the cycle of financial ignorance one child at a time. Within the normal CBC curriculum, we have incorporated comprehensive real-life financial lessons set to make your child succeed in this information age. Your child deserves to learn how to gain financial freedom and enjoy his/her life.
